James Huysman, Ph.D.

Our keynote speaker, James Huysman, Ph.D., is a Board Certified Licensed clinical social worker, life coach, certified hypnotherapist, and a crisis interventionist. Dr. Huysman addresses a new language, culture and perspective on caregiving. He will present “Takes the Oxygen First” a re-examining the way we look at caregiving and change the current perspectives.

As a clinical consultant and featured TV and radio personality, Dr. Huysman continues to be profiled in hundreds of local national and international newspapers and magazines. He continues that mission by serving as Co-founder and Executive Director for The Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to education, empowerment, and energy for caregivers.

In addition to Dr. Huysman, Hugh Eley, BA, MPA, CPM , the Assistant Secretary of the Office of Aging and Adult Services for the Department of Health and Hospitals, will discuss the Louisiana State Alzheimer’s Disease Task Force recommendations.

Dr. Susan Nelson, MD, FACP, FAAHPM, Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Hospice, and Palliative Medicine, will be presenting in two parts: “Disease Stage Progression” and “Late State Palliative Care.”

Sandy Hall, RN, BSN, CMC, CSCC, a registered nurse since 1982, has held administrative roles in the Healthcare field will be presenting “Caregiver Crisis: Attracting and Retaining Caregivers.”

Registration includes a continental breakfast, lunch, all conference materials, and access to exhibits. Registration as a Healthcare Professional will include certification of Continuing Education. Fees are $100 for healthcare professionals and $30 for family caregivers.



   
 

Continuing Education Units

Registered Nurses: 6 contact hours of nursing continuing education have been approved from the LA State Nurses Association, which is accredited as an Approver of Continuing Nursing Education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Social Workers: 6 contact hours of continuing education have been approved from the National Association of Social Workers, Louisiana Chapter, and may be applied toward the continuing education requirements for licensure renewal.

Nursing Facility Administrators: 5.5 contact hours of continuing education have been approved from the State of Louisiana Board of Examiners of Nursing Facility Administrators.

Speech Language Pathologists & Audiologists: 6 contact hours of continuing education have been approved from the Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. This training is acceptable by LBESPA.
Occupational Therapists: 6 contact hours of continuing education have been approved from the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.

Other healthcare disciplines: A certificate of attendance will be provided to present to respective licensing boards.
